It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Kurt Dubowski

Kurt Dubowski, PhD, the American pioneer in the science of breath and blood-alcohol testing died on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the age of 96.

Kurt Dubowski, of Moore, Oklahoma, became the first state director and first chairman of the Oklahoma Board of Tests for Alcohol and Drug Influence after the Legislature created the state agency in 1967 and also founded the toxicology laboratory of the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office and the forensic laboratory system of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, both of which are now independent units.

He served as president of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry in 1985.

His body of scientific work is cited to this date in courtrooms around the world while the methods for blood- and tissue-alcohol analysis developed by him have been used by scientists and in the USA, Canada, France as well as by numerous clinical, forensic and public health laboratories.
